1.Squirrels   2.The Waiting Life   3.Surreal   4.Breaking My   Fingers   5.Sometimes You Know   6.Let's Get Uncomfortable   7.Good Guys  & Bad Guys

This one blows everything else out of the water. I am very proud to present 'The Surreal EP' as I do believe it is my strongest effort to date- not only in comparison to my solo releases, but to all my previous recordings including professional sessions with Thunk and Mosquitohead.

And this one rocks, too. 'Breaking My Fingers' is a sort of post-punk break-up song, and it feels like the White Stripes meeting the Rolling Stones in a dark alley.

The disc opens with 'Squirrels' a nice jangly pop number mostly concerned with how crappy last year was- this one just sort of fell out of me as I was learning how to use my new recording gear- and closes with 'Good Guys & Bad Guys', a Camper Van Beethoven cover. They have always been a huge influence on me and I wanted to pay a sort of tribute to them, and especially to their dedicated fan base, the 'Crumbs'.

Crammed between these two is nothing but straight up rock and roll... well, ok, there is a little bit of weirdness thrown in...

'Let's Get Uncomfortable' sounds something like the British Invasion might have sounded if early '60's Liverpool had been inhabited by the likes of Frank Black, Steve Malkmus and John Linnell.

'Surreal', one of the slower selections, is a song that has been around a bit, but this new recording I believe breathes a new life into it. The other slow song, 'Sometimes You Know' is pure love song. I had to converse extensively with Paul McCartney and Jeff Lynne by Ouija Board to pull this one off, and also the inspiration of a real life love story unfolding before my eyes.

'The Waiting Life' I have been told sounds a bit like the Grateful Dead and a bit like Bob Dylan. This one has more words than the rest, again, like most of this disc, they just sort of fell out of me after i pressed 'record'.

Put all together, the cd has a tightness in its composition, the songs are diverse but sit next to each other very well. It all fits, there is a consistent feel through out without ever getting redundant; the whole thing is crisp and shiny and made fresh to order. I hope everyone enjoys:)

Squirrels

Someone was talking about the sun today
and the things that they'll say
About how its going to blow up anyway
In a billion years
Someone was talking about the crazy day
that it's been
So kiss it away

Someone was talking about the squirrels today
and their radio act
They alternate from particle to wave
Yet they remain intact.
Someone was talking about what a shitty year
it has been
So kiss it away.

Someone was talking about this passing year
There is no sadness in seeing this one slip away
And it seems that's the feeling everywhere,
so kiss it away

Breaking My Fingers

I said Id really like to see you again
you laughed and layed down in front of a train
You know Id give up my eyes
If youd take off your disguise
Id give up my sight for the Visions you see

Your breaking my fingers
I broke your heart
I gave you my word but you tore it apart.

I broke down your door on New Years Eve
you only let me stay to try to get me to leave
and now Im standing out in the hall
and I think I know youll never call
oh, Youve got my number
and you know what I mean
(worst line ever)

You dislocated my hip joint
Ran over my head
I offered a blanket and you wrecked my bed
(tapping my spine, ice pick in my eye, etc...)

The Waiting Life

and i dont get how you get by,
youve closed your eyes,
youre so surprised
when you wake up everyday
and its not yesterday again
if you paint the windows black
the sunlight cant attack you anymore.

but you dont get what you gave up,
you keep your home like a waiting room,
and freedoms just another word for
crippled by your fear
so turn up the tv set and watch them
ringing in another new year.

how can you say its the end?
when you never even really began,
and theyre calling your name
but you pretend you dont hear,
youre only as real as you feel,
and you dont have to feel a thing.

you dont have to feel a thing,
you dont have to say a word,
you dont have to sign your name
or tell them who you are, or even if...

you have no right to do no wrong,
dont sing along with my mistakes,
if thats what it takes to shut you up,
and move along,
theres only one more verse to rehearse
before you can quit the band.

how can you say its the end
when you never even really began?
and theyre calling your name,
you pretend you cant hear.
youre only as real as you feel,
and you dont feel anything at all.
you dont feel anything at all...

Surreal

the distance between us is only miles
the space between us geometry
and i hope that this is real how i feel
we got everything on our side except for time
surreal

so were standing at some turning point
exposing how we feel
and ill take off my skin for you
surreal

Sometimes You Know

i can believe in fate.
tonight, i can believe in destiny
i can believe what the stars are have written out
i just cant believe that you fell for me.

a beat to which we are all a pulse.
i can believe that everything is alright.
sometimes when the winds blowing right,
in the dead of night and you say
i think this might be love-
and sometimes you know.

sometimes the world turns your way.
sometimes everything just feels right.
i can believe this where we are meant to be .
i just cant believe that this is for real.
sometimes you know.

Let's Get Uncomfortable

You say you're not the relationship type
Well I can never live up to my own hype
There's not a force on Earth that can make this
But that doesn't mean we can't try

And two wrongs still don't make a right
I think it's up to at least eight or nine
We've got nothing to offer each other except
your space and my time

Let's Get uncomfortable
Sometimes you want someone to hold
and sometimes it's awkward and cold.

lalalala la la la
yayayaya yah yah yah

And you'll know my life is wrecked
When I'm calling you collect
We'll get too close too fast to make it last
But at least we'll go out with a bang.
